Tailor-Made Design

RivCott Gin is uniquely designed to handle cotton in the Riverina where it is both cooler and wetter than most cotton growing regions in Australia. Because of this climate the modules are typically more MOIST and have more tightly embedded LEAF-TRASH within them. As the IMAGES below show, we have designed RivCott to efficiently gin this kind of cotton.

Breaking away from CONVENTIONAL SOLUTIONS ffor drying and cleaning cotton, RivCott’s DRYING and CLEANING system is unmatched in design and function. Our multiple UNIQUE DESIGN FEATURES provide the grower with the best ginning possible in Australia using the most efficient and effective manner.

Moist Cotton

More than Average Moisture:

Northern-grown seed cotton arrives with a typical moisture reading of 6-9%. Gins use an average of two litres of propane per bale to dry and restore it.
Riverina cotton generally arrives in a moisture range from 10-16% and on average 12%. On the rare occasion it is up near 18% or more.
If a gin does not have adequate drying capacity to handle moist cotton it must either slow down to dry the cotton or gin it too moist and grades will suffer since less trash can be removed.

The Challenges of Moist Cotton:

Cotton will not clean until it is dry: moist cotton will not clean! This is also true by degree in that the dryer it is the more it can be cleaned. Four-leaf grade lint can become 3 or 2-leaf grade by adding heat and drying the cotton more while going through the same cleaners. Ideal cleaning takes place at 5-6% moist seed cotton.
One stage of drying CANNOT dry cotton down 7%. This means that cotton that comes in at 12% moisture cannot be dried down to 5-6% moisture in one stage of drying. A good system can dry it down 3-4%. So 12% moisture cotton, in one stage of drying, will only dry down to about 8-9% moisture.
Inadequate first stage drying equals inadequate first stage cleaning. This means that the first stage of cleaning will do very little except twist the cotton. Often second stage dryers are installed between the first and second stage cleaning in case the cotton is not fully dried.

The Implications:

Moist Riverina cotton going through a conventional gin will not be dried adequately in its first stage of drying and may or may not even be dried at the end of second stage drying.
Conventional cleaning is not only inadequate for Riverina cotton because of its inability to get rid of the tightly held trash in the seed cotton, it is also inadequate because often it is still too moist to be cleaned after one stage of drying.
